Luke Andrew (Shortz)

HEAD COACH

Before starting CrossFit Luke trained in Mixed Martial Arts. He did this just as a way to keep in shape but never really reached his true fitness potential. He was then introduced to CrossFit and instantly a connection was made. He is a CF-L3 Certified CrossFit Trainer, CrossFit Endurance Trainer, CrossFit Movement & Mobility Trainer, CrossFit Powerlifting Trainer and CrossFit Gymnastics Trainer. He also judges CrossFit events worldwide (inc Reebok CrossFit Games Meridian & European Regionals, Reebok CrossFit Invitational) and has the CrossFit Judges certificate 2013 to present. As a judge and a trainer, movement standards within his athletes is something Luke is very big on and encourages getting the rep done correctly the first time rather than having to hear “no rep” a few times and thus losing time/reps during a WOD. Ever the perfectionist, Luke is always reading, watching and reviewing new material, other coaches and new training methods in a quest to be the best trainer he can be and deliver the best training methods possible. He understands that everyone always has something to learn and has a real thirst for knowledge and experience.

Programming is where Luke excels and he loves to be scribbling in his pad working out the next few months strength pieces, WOD’s, accessory drills and mobility work. If you see Luke in a coffee shop, with his programming pad then you know this is where the magic is really happening (if you buy him a coffee then there might not be too many burpees).

Luke has competed himself within CrossFit and understands the demands of a competitive athlete whether competing in CrossFit, MMA, Rugby or any other sport. He has the knowledge and experience to tailor programming to get the most out of an athlete in their chosen field.

Having judged at most UK CrossFit competitions over the years and a fair few abroad he has a great understanding of the competitive scene and how to introduce athletes into that world correctly and to get the most out of their abilities.

Affiliate life is where his focus needs to be and his time is shared between coaching, staff/team development or personal CPD. Luke’s passion lies firmly at the roots of CrossFit and tries to deliver a true and authentic model of what Coach Greg Glassman (founder of CrossFit Inc) had in mind. With the scene growing Luke is keen to keep the original ethos, etiquette, understanding and quality that CrossFit had when he was learning the ropes.
Many coaches miss the smaller details in movement in a bid to excell their clients into the glamorous exercises seen on social media but without implementing the correct base and foundation first, something Luke works on meticulously even with his Games level athletes. More is better, faster isn’t better. Better is better. Practice doesn’t make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect.
When in Luke’s classes expect to be challenged, not only with load or complexity of movement but with performing the foundational movements virtuously!
